Black and white portrait of a man with gray hair and beard, covering part of his face with his hand, with one eye visible.

Born in Penang, Malaysia, and having grown up in Western Canada, Visti has made Calgary, Alberta home since the early 80’s. Throughout his life, Visti has worked and played in the outdoors building a great appreciation for the natural world around him through his personal exploits in adventure, exploration, overlanding, backpacking, fly fishing, as an instructor and mechanic in the cycling industry, and as a traveller. He graduated with a BSc in the field of Archaeology where he worked as an archaeologist across Alberta and into Saskatchewan and Yellowstone National Park. His career switched gears as he moved into the oil industry to manage remote exploratory oilfield sites and then into the environmental world.

In his younger years, Visti dabbled in photography and the darkroom, got his feet wet in underwater photography while attaining his Dive Master certification. His first camera before the digital revolution was a Canon AE-1 which he cut his creative teeth on. It was not till the summer of 2002 working in YNP as an archaeologist that his desire for photography and the darkroom took off.

Visti has spent the last 24+ years learning and developing his photography.  His work is varied like his career and personal interests. A mix of the natural world, the built environment and the industrial landscape. His work has been printed in numerous publications and displayed in smaller galleries over the years. His largest and most recent project was spent in Japan photographing Japanese blacksmiths and craftsmen for a successful joint book project.  It is through his travels, interests, and the curiosity of this great world around him that is reflected in his photography. Visti does not have one defined style but a broad interest where he is continually seeking unique experiences, all the while refining, evolving, and improving his view of the world through the lens of his camera.
